Brain Development

The brain is an extremely complex organ that like a muscle grows stronger with use. Unlike with muscles, in the case of the brain the power comes from interconnectedness. The brain has millions of synapses along which electrical signals flow during thought. Developing new areas of study is like laying down roads between existing areas. As more and more traffic flows along these roads, they get wider to accommodate the increased traffic, and at the same time look for more and different routes. In the same way that an economy thrives after roads and highways are constructed, the brain thrives as synapses are developed. Piano study is one of the most effective and efficient ways of developing those synapses, but after they are built they remain, and allow for more lateral thinking in all other areas of study. It is no coincidence that top musicians are also math, language and science prodigies and chess champions. Even if a student never played a note on the piano, the brain framework remains, as does the brain performance. There is a vast amount of scientific study that confirms this, but the following article describes the effect well.
